The Pandora world Cameron takes us to is excellent and magnificently conceptualized, but the story is missing the emotional draw that made this film a pretentious masterpiece. Though the visuals are still magnificent, it's difficult this time not to recognize the repetition of the story and the limited character arcs the movie presented. You will remember Avatar---aside from blue people---as a movie with impeccable and out-of-this-world visuals, but the story remains forgettable. Jessica lives a life full of pain and guilt after losing her sister years back, trying to fill the emptiness felt by her mother. Some films are just pure escapism and sometimes that's what audiences need, and this is what Avatar 2 delivered.

Avatar 2 doesn't necessarily check all those boxes to become a great film, but what it does right will offer viewers moments of astonishment, full-body immersion, and beauty. You can easily watch the movie and points out its mistakes and flaws, but it is hard to resist the fun and adventure the film delivers throughout its 192 minutes runtime. It is clear that James Cameron is making this movie for a general audience, and while imperfect, it certainly seems to serve its purpose. Jessica Santiago & Ana Bartolome are two sisters who have lived in separate lives for 12 long years.

With the exception of a few difficult scenes, the movie is made with a lot of care and it is even watchable by elders. Yet the film is glistened with lively performances, particularly from Julia Montes, whose cute-as-a-button smile and sunny disposition carry the film almost solely on its own.

Phillips Lord and his character's name "Seth Parker" appear above the title. They were familiar to 1931 audiences from the radio program on which the film is based. It may be even a bit more concise if there wasn't a lame, corny fish joke awaiting the closer of every sentence. And they had only one director in mind, Jerry Sineneng, who is known for helming family dramas.

For me this was a watch and delete, but I enjoyed many moments including the organ accompanied songs sung in chorus. This is the kind of story that could be over in roughly forty-five minutes if the characters had an earnest, heartfelt conversation rather than exchanging tears and words of pity and anger every few minutes. Too often does the story and its characters try to make us cry and feel sorry for their situation by creating drama or dry setups, some handled effectively, others handled amateurishly and as a means to exploit. Just like in the first Avatar, characters are established a lot, and there is not much emotional attachment during the first half.
